Kenzo Okada Exhibition

Wildenstein Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Kenzo Okada
This exhibition of works by Kenzo Okada was made possible through the support of Kimi, Kenzo's wife. He will be the third Japanese artist to be represented by this gallery. What led him to hold this exhibition was the fact that Okada was a classmate of the first artist the gallery featured, Shiro Kobori. Many other significant artists such as Ushijima, Ogisu, Koiso, Yamaguchi, and Inokuma, who represent the postwar Japanese art scene, also worked with the gallery. Given this background, it is interesting to make comparisons between them and Okada, analyzing his work from various angles.

Nowadays, Japanese young artists are highly appraised at art auctions, and regularly receive international acclaim. Okada is one of the first Japanese artists who made a successful career in New York during the postwar era, winning a number of prizes. His works are held by major museum collections across the US, including the Rockefeller collection.
