Hiroko Ichihara
Hiroko Ichihara's "word" exhibitions have a straightforward delivery and unique impact, always centered on themes of love and laughter: "If he's that kind of person, why don't you leave him?", "I give myself to the shelf", "I'll keep on living even though I hate it." Ichihara's canvases of "word patterns" shift in and out of everyday contexts, delineated in thick Gothic letters on a white background. These phrases are the voices and personalities of contemporary life, sometimes humorous, sometimes cynical; expressing a personal opinion while also hinting at some subtle absurdity at hand.

In addition to exhibiting her work in various museums, Ichihara has also attracted attention for her "writings" in outdoor settings, such as the Shinsaibashi branch of Sogo department store in Osaka and the Yokohama Skating Rink. She also held a performance in which she distributed paper bags with "shoplifter" written on them to customers at a shopping center in England.

This exhibition, Ichihara's second solo show at Kamakura Gallery after her first in 2006, focuses on representative works selected by Ichihara herself: 6 large and 8 small canvases suitable for prospective collectors. In addition, playful love charms with "hoping for a good match" written on them and other goods will be on sale.
