Kichijoji Art Museum opened on February 2nd, 2002. Its collection includes a variety of genres including Nihonga painting, oil painting, calligraphy, and photography. The museum accepts donations from artists with ties to Kichijoji City and their family members, putting its collection at some 2,000 pieces.

The copperplate prints of Yozo Hamaguchi and the woodblock prints of Hideo Hagiwara are on regular display in the Yozo Hamaguchi and Hideo Hagiwara Memorial Rooms. Four to five times each year, the Exhibition Room holds exhibitions of works from artists in the collection and other special shows. It can be used as a Citizen’s Gallery each July, November, and March. With the motto “See, create, educate,” Kichijoji Art Museum is a small space that strives to be an exciting and unique oasis within the city where art can be freely enjoyed.
