Artists

Sayaka Shoji, Pascal Frament
Sayaka Shoji became the youngest and the first Japanese winner of the Paganini International Competition, achieving worldwide prominence. Since then, she has held numerous concerts and recitals, pursuing her career as a violinist.

This exhibition features paintings that Shoji started executing about 2 years ago and a video piece she created in collaboration with French video artist Pascal Frament. Shoji considers her paintings as "second interpretation" of music: She visualizes the sound reverberating in her head and images coming up to mind as she listens to or plays music. What prompt her to paint are the desire to express her mental images and the pleasure of interpreting music late at night, a time when she's prohibited from practicing music. This is a great opportunity to experience the artistic creativity of this phenomenal figure.
