Yasumi Hakoshima
Yasumi Hakoshima was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1979 and spent her childhood in Thailand. While enrolled at Tokyo Zokei University, she studied abroad at the Vienna Art Academy as an international exchange student, and graduated from the painting department at Zokei in 2002. After finishing a stint as a research student at the same university in 2003, she studied abroad again at Silpakorn University in Bangkok as a research student, taking up a position as artist-in-residence at the same university in 2004. Currently, Hakoshima resides in Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture, exhibiting work in both Tokyo and Bangkok.
Hakoshima's dense, saturated use of color and unique choice and handling of motifs comes, perhaps, from her experience living in Southeast Asia as a child and the interesting viewpoints on art thus acquired. This second solo show at Gallery Jin showcases around 15 oil paintings and drawings.
