Kiichi Tsutaya "Nurie by Kiichi"

Artists

Kiichi Tsutaya
Delicate lines and a pronounced sense of composition feature boys and girls clad in nostalgic fashions. Their faces and postures convey a timeless beauty. Kiichi Tsutaya’s works, most notably his nurie (coloring pictures), are a genuine work of art in their own right. Tsutaya was one of the first to provide young girls with the sensation of "kawaii", a distinct notion of charm and cuteness, which eventually found itself a firm position in modern Japanese culture. It is therefore no surprise that artist Takashi Murakami, known for his "Superflat" movement, has already taken a keen interest in Tsutaya’s works and recently organized an exhibition entitled "Nurie" at the Cartier Foundation in Paris.

Gallery Naruyama is pleased to present "Nurie by Kiichi", a collection of original artworks from the 1940s and 50s. A total of 30 original drawings created for package designs are on display.
