"Kiyoshi Awazu: 60 Years of His Career" Exhibition

Kawasaki City Museum
Finished

Artists

Kiyoshi Awazu
A pioneer in the field of graphic design, Kiyoshi Awazu (1929-) has also devoted himself to a wide variety of other genres such as painting, video and environmental design. His borderless activities have exerted considerable influence on the art world of postwar Japan.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its opening, the Kawasaki City Museum is hosting an exhibition of Awazu's work with a focus on the theme "follow the course of reproduction," one that became popular in the late 1960s. This was also the expression that Awazu frequently used to explain his activities. Delving into the issue of "reproduction", this exhibition reexamines 60 years of his career, while also attempting to reconsider the genre of reproduction art.

On view are Awazu's works produced mainly in the 1970s covering a wide variety of media from posters, prints, manga illustrations, photographs and videos to paintings, book designs and more.
