"Design Competition for Environmentally Friendly Housing" Exhibition

Living Design Center Ozone
Finished
This design competition is a collaborative event between academia and industry aimed at students of the architecture, design and environmental faculties at universities, graduate schools and vocational colleges. It aims to raise awareness of problems that currently face housing in Japan, and to search for future concrete solutions to improve the current situation. Through planned exchanges between students at the various schools and collaborations with industries, the competition also hopes to nurture the next generation of young designers. First started as a joint initiative by the Osaka University of the Arts and Sekisui House Inc., this competition has since grown in scale. It was held last year in the Kansai area, and starting this year it is expanding to the Kanto region as well.

This year's participants have been given a 1:1 model of a space measuring 2.4m across to work with. They will propose spaces or devices that address the theme of "ecologically friendly housing" by choosing to work with (1) evolution of food culture, (2) the enhancement of the local community, or (3) improvements to low-tech devices.

On display are 5 1:1 scale models of works submitted from the Kanto region. The judging panel will decide on the top prize winner over the duration of the exhibition.
