Masatake Kouzaki "Tougen"

Casper's Gallery
Finished

Artists

Masatake Kouzaki
The "Tougen" in this series is a reference to Taoyuan village in China. Kouzaki's work features minutely rendered animals, plants and vehicles that do not actually exist in reality, depicting a contemporary version of Taoyuan that seems to have transcended actual space and time. In addition to oil paint, Kouzaki also uses gold leaf and natural mineral pigments to create strong, humorous work that represents an impressive fusion with traditional Japanese elements.

Kouzaki participated in the group exhibition at New York's Dillon Gallery last year, and his work has been purchased by the Rubin Museum. This exhibition focuses on his new works, including large painted folding screens.
