The non-profit art organization Japan-Yugo Art Project aims at promoting cultural exchange between Japan and countries that used to be part of the former Yugoslavia through art. This exhibition is a part of their program to further develop mutual understanding across these nations.

Since 1999, the Heizaburo Iwano Paper Manufacturing Factory (a recipient of the Pola Traditional Culture Award 2008) has been donating 100 sheets of large-format washi paper to Serbia every year for artists to use. For a week during the summer, the Iwano Project is held by the Danube river. The artworks created by participants in the Iwano Project are then presented at an exhibition, receiving much acclaim for the high-quality work that heightens the beauty of Iwano's washi paper.

This exhibition consists of works donated to Mr. Iwano by the participants in the Iwano Project. Selected works which were exhibited in Fukui last year are on display alongside new acquisitions. In addition, works by Tomo Goto (a recipient of the VOCA Award) and Linmay Komine, the first Japanese participants in the project, are on view.
