Foil Gallery is pleased to present Hiroyuki Takenouchi's solo exhibition "Seasons" from 12th February to 6th March. This will be his first solo exhibition at a gallery, and about 60 both small and large works he has produced over the past 7 years will be on view.
Since encountering photography in his youth, Hiroyuki Takenouchi (b. 1982) has been documenting drag queens, his boyfriend and everyday scenes passing by, reacting carefully to such encounters with his camera.
Through his work he asks himself questions like "if I'm doing what I want to", "if I allow myself to be ruled by trends and others' opinions" and "if I'm trying to be honest to myself". His artistic practice is devoted to those unanswerable questions, and you may find a unique feeling of levitation in his work, as well as mixed tensions of fear, nostalgia and love towards the idea of uniqueness- nothing can be the same as before. This may be compared with how we feel about the transience of seasons.
