Hiroaki Fujii "Torianse II"

Nikon Salon Bis
Finished

Artists

Hiroaki Fujii
On display are 35 black and white photographs that represent Fujii's attempt to grapple with his deteriorating physical condition: a progressive numbing of his fingers that caused him to lose his ability to write and even use chopsticks, which necessitated an operation on his cervical vertebrae to alleviate the pressure on his nerves. These images reflect contemporary fears and insecurities about Japan's ailing welfare system and overburdened medical facilities as its citizens continue to age.
