"The Splendor of Modernity" Exhibition

Okura Shukokan Museum of Fine Arts
Finished
Japanese culture from the late Edo period through to the Meiji Restoration saw the emergence of new exchanges and contacts with foreign countries. New influences from abroad were absorbed while vernacular traditions were preserved. This exhibition examines this notion of "modernity" from an aesthetic point of view, featuring works by artists like Gaho Hashimoto, Taikan Yokoyama and Kanzan Shimomura.
