Shigeru Aoki "Myth, Sea and Love"

Artists

Shigeru Aoki
In 1904, at the age of 22, Shigeru Aoki presented to the art world his work “A Good Catch,” a painting that captured people’s hearts against the backdrop of Meiji era Romanticism. Aoki went on to create a body of work inspired by Japanese mythological subjects, but whose Romantic spirit invited the viewer to transcend present time and space. Each of his works reflects the love, hate, and suffering of individual human beings. Covering the entire period of his brief career, this major retrospective of Aoki's work, who tragically passed away at the age of 28, includes some 200 oil paintings, watercolors and sketches.
