Dear all,

It was time for me to do a real Art Show. I do not like the idea of packaging my art, or working on concepts or definitions around my work. Most of it is spontaneous, improvised, and voluntarily approximative. What I like people to look at it and imagine their own story. This show is an opportunity for you to discover a very nice place called "Sakaiki", hidden cafe in Yotsuya-3-chome where everything is about Culture but where nothing is designed or conceptual (not a marketing atmosphere). I chose it because it is not a gallery, thus the place is part of the show - I think it says a lot about what I like in Japan. You are most welcome to come during the week, or join me during the opening cocktail on Friday 17th June.

I don't like exhibitions that are too well packaged. I usually find that concepts on art are either not necessary to the works - or these are really smart and conceptual, up to the point that theories do not need the art anymore (then what is it?). This time, to motivate myself since I am not interested in my works once I decided they are finished, I decided to paint a work during the exhibition week - very big, a few meters wide, and everyday little by little. Also, to give to the show more consistency, I chose a series of portraits and limited to recent works only. And since I do not want the monopoly on defining my own art, I asked friends to write texts, select and play or sing music that they think might fit - and for which they will explain during a special show. I want to thank them in advance to help me coming out as an artist and not suffer too much from the self-inflicted arrogance necessary to such a project.
