Kaori Kodama "Lines on Graph Paper"

Radium von Roentgenwerke AG

Artists

Kaori Kodama
Kodama's work is literally comprised of lines on graph paper drawn by pen, depicting foods which have no color nor emotion. Normally, the shows involve minimal installation consisting of some or numerous pieces of drawings occupying the wall.

These drawings are reproduced from the pictures in food magazines or books with extreme precision, and they could be recognized as computer graphics, yet are hand drawing without preliminary sketches or hesitation. Thus the artist seems to eliminate the "gorgeous", rather exposing her intense desire for abstraction projected in accuracy. Such ambivalence makes for unique composition comprised of entwined lines, resembling the mysterious creatures in the paintings by Bosch or Bruegel.

In recent years, she has shifted her scale from sets of B5 sheets to larger pictures, making more variations in the composition.

This is her first solo show.
