Alec Soth
A documentary about photographer Alec Soth’s “Broken Manual” project. Soth spent four years photographing the lives of people running away from capitalist society in America. His subjects live in seclusion, one in a ruin-like mountain hut, another in a dim cave, and another in a vast desert. Why did these people living inconspicuously on the edges of American society drop out of it? Can they achieve utopias in their own private worlds? What kind of impressions did their lifestyles make on Soth, who became close to them? “Somewhere to Disappear” focuses on the process by which these runaways and Soth became fascinated with and enmeshed in each other’s lives.
