Tove Jansson’s Summer House- The Story of Moomin and Life on Klovharu

Gallery A4
Finished
The works of major Finish author and Moomin creator Tove Jansson (1914-2001) have been translated into the languages of 40 countries. Loved by people around the world, the nine-volume Moomin saga tells the story of the Moomin troll family and their utopian world. Jansson was also know for her unconventional lifestyle, which somewhat resembled the Moomin family’s, and spent her summers on an island without electricity, water, or gas, where the woods, sea, and sun informed her creativity. Jansson’s works explore themes of happiness, spiritual wealth, and what it means to live in a society driven by convenience. Considering solitude to be the ultimate luxury, she spent nearly three decades living on the deserted island of Klovharu. This exhibition offers the opportunity to reflect on Jansson’s life, work, and ideals.
