Artists

Aya Cagiu, Kayoko Kobayashi
A joint exhibition of two artists whose delicate work weaves out our human hopes and dreams in worlds of prayer, memory and fantasy.

Establishing herself as an embroidery artist after graduating from the sculpture department of Tama Art University, Aya Cagiu creates delicate works which draw upon the popular custom of embroidering the image of the Buddha which came to the fore during the reign of Empress Suiko, utilizing this age old device for bringing shape to peoples prayers, embedding with each stitch a prayer to retain wonderment and beauty in our lives.

Graduating from the Sophia University Comparative Cultural Studies Department and completing a course in Japanese Painting at Musashino art university Kayoko Kobayashi depicts the landscapes of dreams suffused with flowers and butterflies in a celebration of the joy of life, in imagined worlds without gravity, suggesting our first memory of the landscape of the womb.
