Artists

Osamu Suzuki
Osamu Suzuki (1926-2001) was one of Japan’s most prominent ceramic artists of the post-war era. In 1948 he was a founder of the avant-garde group, Sodeisha (literally ‘Crawling through Mud’ Association), along with potters Kazuo Yagi and Hikaru Yamada. Sodeisha dedicated themselves to the creation of non-functional objects, and elevating ceramics from a “craft” to an “art.”
This exhibition is the first major retrospective of Suzuki’s works since his passing. A total of 150 pieces spanning the artist’s career will be on display including some never before shown to the public.
