BCL ”Exo Lab / White Salon”

Ai Koko Gallery
Finished

Artists

Shiho Fukuhara, Georg Tremmel, Hiroki Yoshioka
The Japanese-Austrian art unit BCL— Shiho Fukuhara, Yuki Yoshioka, and Georg Tremmel—transform the gallery into a temporal, external lab, a “White Salon” serving as a place for artistic research and the documentation of these ideas. BCL playfully explores existing artistic and societal issues related to the topics of biology and water. The metaphor “unstable media” binds these topics together and relates them to our bodies, our minds, and the sources of life. The exhibition shifts between the “Exo Lab,” in which experiments are imagined, planned, and carried out, and the “White Salon,” where reflective discussions, presentations, and meetings of journal clubs are held. At the “Exo Lab,” BCL will work on activities including the creation of a metaphysical water filtration system and the construction of DNA-drawing robots. At the “White Salon,” the BCL artists talk with each other, with the audience, and with other invited scientists, artists, and designers. The artistic research findings and discussions will be documented, expanded, and published as a catalogue at the end of the exhibition.
