Located approximately 1 hour and a half from Tokyo center, the district of Chichibu is positioned at the furthest reaches of west Saitama and surrounded on 3 sides by mountains and host to a plethora of festivals, shrines and temples. In this exhibition Akifumi Tanaka makes a choice selection of his portrayls of this land which he has continued to photograph for over 40 years, capturing the beauty of its landscapes which simultaneously enwrap a history of uprisings in support of democracy during the Meiji period.
