The heart, always in search of beauty, can discover it even in negative images of destruction and decay, and tries to find a comfortable balance between the two. “That is creation,” Hiroko Koshino comments.
It has been three years since an unprecedented major earthquake occurred. Beauties dug out from devastation not only serve to remind us of the meaning of a catastrophe that took many lives, but also to refresh our awareness of how precious each person’s life is. The exhibited works here convey such feelings.
Paper creases running across the canvas and messy runny paints symbolize destruction. Attempting to find beauty from these different images represented in rich color tones that move gradually from subdued to warm, we discover a touch of spring.
