New Mokume Gane Exhibition

Daikanyama Hillside Forum
Finished
The metal work technique of “Mokume-gane” first emerged in the Edo period, skillfully working the color variations of metals to create grain like patterns, and is a craft which only highly trained artisans are able to master. This highly specialized technique has come to be used in the production of jewelry and continues to be passed down from generation to generation. As a new development in this tradition a new technique was developed in 2010 combining silver and copper clays, with a new following soon spreading across the world. This exhibition places a spotlight upon these innovations through the work of 42 artists from Japan and 15 artists from overseas.
