The early-Renaissance humanist Leon Battista Alberti considered paintings to be “open windows” through which the artist portrayed the world he or she saw. In other words, paintings were alternate dimensions that separated themselves from reality through their square frames. This exhibition explores how the constructed worlds of paintings change according to their relationships with spaces, canvases, and base mediums, rather than ending in virtuality.
