The “Maps of Memory” series intermittently shows family albums unearthed in people’s homes, exploring memories of “Japan” through pictures that capture their eras and the families they portray. Photo albums do not exist for the photographer, but for the photographed and their family members, for their friends and acquaintances, for their children and grandchildren. The purpose of photo albums is to awaken memories of the distant past.
