Mika Ninagawa “Self-image”

Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo)
Finished

Artists

Mika Ninagawa
With her vividly colored photographs Mika Ninagawa has drawn wide spread attention in recent years in her fresh approach to the medium, attracting collaborations with film, music videos and fashion design in the expansion of her practice. While her penchant “Ninagawa Color” radiates a positivity through her subjects of idols, models and flowers, there is always a sense of death and decay simultaneously close at hand, exemplified in series such as “Noir”(2010-), “Plant a Tree”(2011) and her black and white self portraits. Here the introduction to the special selection of works “Self-image” brings Ninagawa into confrontation with the self and opens a new chapter in the appreciation of her work.
