These photographs relate to Sato’s elementary school memories. He says, “In the evenings I waited in from of the supermarket for my mother to come back from work. This was only time I could be out after the sunset chimes had rung. A few ladies tried to chat with me as I sat. Most people passed right by, as if they did not see me at all. That one-mat space seemed like an entirely separate world.”
