From the murals of ancient China to medieval Japanese picture scrolls, the Daimyo Garden plans and the prints of ukiyo-e, the form of the bonsai tree may be traced throughout the cultural history of Japan and the East, with infatuated politicians of the Meiji era to the opening of the Bonsai Art Museum in the early Showa period also claiming this craft as part of modern culture.
