Tomoyuki Hotai “Torus”

Takashimaya Shinjuku 10F Art Gallery

Artists

Tomoyuki Hotai
Tomoyuki Hotai works with wood, but rather than engraving or sculpting it, he creates human figures by combining thin boards in a process similar to model-making. As if peering into the fathoms of life, Hotai’s works evoke a poeticism that resonates with the soul, inviting the viewer into meditative states. This exhibition focusing on statues inspired by the Seven Deities of Good Fortune also presents sculptures done in new styles, works of various sizes, and drawings.
