Artists

Naoki Sasayama, Kiyotaka Tsurisaki
The painter Naoki Sasayama seeks out beauty in pictures of dead bodies pervading the internet, and the photographer Kiyotaka Tsurisaki captures the beauty of the dead around the world in extreme images. Here they present works focusing on the corpses of women. Their dialogues with bodies found in places of danger where tragedy unfolds are rituals that directly confront reality, while also sharing the pursuit of a return to the essence of art. This exhibition asks, “as today’s Japanese society becomes increasingly strict in its regulations and taboos about the birth and the end of life, is the motif of the female corpse not a fundamental means of interrogation into the true meaning of art?
