Dialogue Lab 2 - What is it to make money? - Talk Event

Anata no Kousaten
Finished
What does it mean to make money? The making money of physically producing currency and the making money of generating an income. What is involved in these two actions? Money is a measure of value, a symbol for comparison and exchange, an abstract standard by which much of the world is judged by. While simultaneously it is a physical object with its own touch and smell, it can be torn and melted. Where does the line lie between the physical material and the intangible idea and value? With this thought perhaps it is possible to imagine and create a new form of money. Yet at the same time “labor” is the supposed requirement for most of us in the “making of money”, with time and energy commodified into the shape of money and the things it can by. This discussion and workshop will examine the shift from the physical to the conceptual in money and the movement from abstract action to physical representation found in the action of labor.
