A Century of Japanese Microscopes

National Museum of Nature and Science
Finished
It is 420 years since microscopes were first discovered and they have become a vital optical apparatus in the progress of science, medicine and production. Despite this history it was not until 1914 that Japan succeeded in the industrial manufacture of this equipment, the first commercially available microscope being known as “M.katera”. This exhibition reflects on the impact of this development which has brought so much to research in the field.
