Jiro Takamatsu “The Absence of Subject in Image - From Text and Photograph”

Artists

Jiro Takamatsu
From the late 1960s to the mid 1970s Jiro Takamatsu concentrated his practice upon the motif of text and numbers. While he developed his renowned shadow series in the mid 60s, attempting to grasp reality through the concept of absence, in attempting to reach perfect nothingness the image of the shadow left too much of a presence for Takamatsu causing him to shift towards letters and numerical figures in an attempt to irradiate the image. This exhibition also features his paper and wood “Elements” series and the net and fabric “Slack” series developed around the same time.
