Kasumi Ueba, Derek Larsen

Possessing a mysterious charm, Kasumi Ueba’s ceramics combine classical designs and bright, contemporary colors with unique shapes like chimeras. Ueba creates her pieces in single bouts of deep concentration, making no drawings or color sketches beforehand. Derek Larson’s works, meanwhile, have a earnest pleasantness in their natural glazes and ikebana-inspired forms, emanating a unique “radiant austerity.” Exhibiting contrasting works, this show is a collaboration between the two artists.
