To many ukiyo-e prints hold association with pictures of hedonistic times in a peaceful world. However, during the Edo and Meiji periods, there were many ukiyo-e prints which took “war” as their theme. This year as the world commemorates the 70th anniversary since the end of the Pacific War, Ota Memorial Museum of Art takes the opportunity to introduce war-themed ukiyo-e prints in a collection of artworks which have rarely been under the spotlight until now.
