Artists

Tatsuo Ebisawa
A reworking of Tatsuo Ebisawa’s display at the PENvolution exhibition in Hanover, Germany. At PENvolution, the artist presented dioramas resembling Japanese “bonkei” miniature gardens made with sausage, salami, cheese, and other cold foods in homage to the German tradition of “cold meal” suppers. For this show, instead of raw food Ebisawa uses miniature plastic samples found in restaurant showcases, highlighting the advanced technological skill that makes these items mistakable for the real thing, while also reflecting upon the “kitsch” of Japanese culinary culture.
