Said to be Shoji Ueda’s final photographic series, “Illusion” has been an elusive body of work, with very few chances to see existing prints. Yet by good fortune the positive film taken between 1987-1992 has been uncovered. Utilizing color positive film with a Pentax 645, with multiple exposures he undertook these final works in a way differing from his other oeuvre, setting up a miniature desert in his studio from which he shot small objects placed in the sand, confusing our sense of scale and space. Here are unveiled 30 works never presented to public before.
