Tomoyasu Murata “Edge”

Gallery Momo Ryogoku
Finished

Artists

Tomoyasu Murata
Tomoyasu Murata, an award-winning animator who has produced music videos for Mr. Children and puppet shows for NHK, returns to his early work in puppet animation with two new films and a miniature set. Titled “Edge,” this show speaks to Japanese origins and the country’s deep relationship with climate through agriculture, dairy farming, and fishing. The film presents a performance of Okinamai, a traditional performing art offered as a prayer for safety and a productive grain harvest, in which the Okina mask appears as an “edge” to observe the fluctuating world.
