Artist collective Chaos Lounge has recently joined forces with Genron Café to form the “New Art School”. The first semester of this alternative art education program has focused on “Rediscovering the Avant-Garde”, defining it not as shock and absurdism but as placing an eye upon the things which most of the contemporary world has chosen to neglect. Over the period of one year the lecturers of Genron Chaos Lounge Art School have shares their interpretations of the Avant-Garde through a course of lectures, with an emphasis on “looking at the other”.
With avant-garde, and front-line coming from military vocabulary, to redefine these terms is to confront the battle zone of one’s own practice and here participating artists take on the first strike in boldly rediscovering the world.
