Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold
Philipp Franz Balthasar von Siebold was a German doctor who came to Japan in the late Edo period and shared his knowledge of Western science with Japanese physicians and conducted detailed studies of Japanese flora and fauna. To mark 150 years since his death a special exhibition of his collection held in the State Museum of Ethnology in Munich and the collection of the von Brandenstein-Zeppelin family, shedding new light on a figure who bridged between East and West.
