Artists

Susumu Notomi, Hiroko Koshino
Susumu Notomi and Hiroko Koshino first met six years ago. The actor Koshino visited to Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture, renowned for its historical ceramics, and here came to encounter the stimulating work of ceramic artist Notomi, with its striking use of blue. This blue resembles that of the natural dye of hollyhock blue, known as “ai” in Japan, but is created through the chemical reactions of the ceramic lacquer. This blue has a rich depth which ties to the depths pf our minds and recalls the sea, the sky, the cosmos and a presence beyond human existence. Here the two creative figures join in the first collaboration exhibition with 13 ceramic peices from Notomi and 10 abstract paintings from Koshino.
