Kazuki Umezawa
Founding member of Chaos * Lounge, and highly acclaimed artist in his own right, Kazuki Umezawa presents his solo exhibition. Renowned for his collages of imagery gleaned from the internet, Umezawa made his debit with Chaos * Lounge in 2008, just at a time when there was increasing discussion upon post-internet art. However, after the earthquake disaster of 2011, Umezawa began to deal with landscapes which had undergone transformation through disaster. In this way he has moved from concerns with post-internet to a questioning of the representation (or impossibility of representation) of disaster. This exhibition strides both worlds through the “image” (internet, data, simulation) and “paper”(painting, material, reality).
