Takumi Sugawara “Indigo Works and Ceramics”

Matsuya Ginza
Finished

Artists

Takumi Sugawara
Takumi Sugawara is an indigo artist that works out of an indigo workshop on Oshima, one of the Izu islands off of Tokyo’s shore. He produces bold and original designs directly on fabric using his fingers and brushes, without the support of sketches or patterns, an approach advocated by author and fine arts collector, Masako Shirasu. This exhibition will present brand new works centering on traditional noren curtains as well as Shigaraki ware ceramic pieces that have garnered high acclaim in recent years.
