Artists

Shuji Inoue, Rieko Yanagisawa
Exhibition by Shuji Inoue and Rieko Yanagisawa, two students currently enrolled in the Department of Ceramics, Glass and Metal Works at Tama Art University. Inoue is an artist interested in the movement of power/energy and how objects stand/balance. Encountering situations unexpectedly in the context of everyday life, Inoue has made unprecedented discoveries and developments through becoming aware of aspects that reconfirm the effects brought about gravity, buoyancy, and frictional forces. In this exhibition, he will make a fresh attempt to work with gravity and pressure. Yanagisawa forms shapes through repeated acts. Through her practice she explores themes such as patterns of thought and the act of thinking, behavior that cultivates the spirit and spaces where consciousness slips, how craft can exist in context of contemporary art in Japan, and situation of craft in terms of spiritual beliefs in Japan.
