Antonin Raymond
Antonin Raymond, an architect born in the Czech Republic, made a great contribution to modern Japanese architecture. Influencing many Japanese architects, his life and work also attracted much interest in his home country. This exhibition introducing numerous historic works by Raymond in Japan and the Philippines was first held in Galerie Jaroslava Fragnera, a gallery in Prague that specializes in architecture, in 2015. Raymond’s work is a popular subject of research for architects, and it continues to inspire curators. This exhibition will look at Raymond’s practice from a completely different position, inviting a more intimate and unique view of his work. A series of talk sessions by those who worked with Raymond will accompany the exhibition. This is a chance to learn about the creation of postwar design centers, and gain a new perspective of architectural trials in Japan in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
