Celebrating 88 Years: Pure Ceramic Works - The White Porcelain of Manji Inoue

Artists

Manji Inoue
At this 41st solo exhibition by Manji Inoue a selection of more than 110 works by the celebrated ceramicist will be presented. Inoue’s white porcelain devoid of ostentatious decoration represents ultimate beauty. The works are born of natural phenomena witnessed by the artist in landscapes and flowers, and are imbued with a sense of narrative. For instance, one of the works presented here is based on the idea of a ship caught in a swirling whirlpool while traveling from Okayama, mainland Japan, to the island of Shikoku.
For an artist such as Inoue, it is important that one always takes a fresh approach and continues to face challenges with the creative mind. Inoue, who always takes an evening walk after finishing work, has said of himself, “Though when I was young it was enough to focus all my efforts into pottery, now I must also make an effort to take care of my health.” Inoue’s grandchild was born in December last year, and its is surely this sparkle of life that forms the new driving force behind his current creative motivation.
