Reina Taniho
Immediately after graduating from the Nihonga department of the Tama Art University graduate school in 2012, Reina Taniho received the Kai Higashiyama Memorial Nikkei Nihonga Grand Prize and was featured at the Ohara Museum of Art artist-in-residence exhibition Arko. She was also awarded the 25th Gotoh Memorial Culture Prize Newcomer Award. This is her first exhibition since returning from studying in Spain from November 2014 to February 2016.

With intricate brushwork, richly organic colors, and expansive dimensions, Taniho depicts the pure emotion and awe that encounters with the mysterious beauty of life can provoke. “Ubusuna” is her newest work. Spanning 6.5 meters in length, the painting’s title refers to the god that protects one’s birthplace. Taniho renewed and deepened her identity as an artist upon the completing of research abroad, and in this work she explores “places of life.”
