Kumi Sugai + Shihoko Fukumoto “Revolutionary Creation: From Individualism to Harmony”

Isetan Shinjuku Store
Finished

Artists

Kumi Sugai, Shihoko Fukumoto
Kumi Sugai, who left Japan for France in 1952, incorporated motifs from ancient Japanese culture into his arresting paintings and prints. His approach transformed from the 1960s as he rejected individualistic expressions for harmonized layers in his work. Shihoko Fukumoto, an important textile artist, expresses infinite space in her indigo-dyed fabrics featuring themes of nature and the universe. “From Individualism to Harmony” presents these two internationally practicing artists.
