“Expressive power of life: Kiyoshi Yamashita and Friends”

Kawasaki City Museum
Finished

Artists

Kiyoshi Yamashita, Kenji Ishikawa, Yuichi Numa, Shigehiro Noda
This year marks the 89th anniversary of Yawata Gakuen, a facility that was established in Chiba Prefecture in 1928 and continues to support children with developmental disabilities. Artist Kiyoshi Yamashita entered the facility in 1934 at the age of 12 and discovered collage, his artistic talent blooming while at the school. Like Yamashita, his friends and fellow students Kenji Ishikawa, Yuichi Numa, and Shigehiro Noda have produced many artworks that allow viewers to experience a rare sense of “naturalness” that surrounds “beauty.” This exhibition will present more than 100 works by these four artists, as well as Yamashita’s diary, calligraphy, and records of his school memories. Enjoy the expressive power of these works.
